VoyageLA: Meet Lizbeth of Lizbeth Hernandez, Inc.
Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizbeth.
Lizbeth, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey as a mental health therapist began during my time working with youth in the foster care system. As a foster care social worker, I provided case management services and witnessed firsthand the complex emotional and psychological challenges these young people faced. This experience inspired me to support them in a deeper, more therapeutic capacity-helping them heal from trauma and develop the coping skills needed to navigate the obstacles of foster care. Motivated by a commitment to continue serving my community, I chose to focus my efforts on supporting the Latino population and promoting mental health within this underserved group.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to becoming a therapist was anything but easy. At the time, I was a single mother, striving to balance the responsibilities of parenthood with my dream of a career in mental health. Determined to earn my master’s degree and professional license, I devoted countless days and nights to my studies- often transitioning from work to class to parenting without pause. The journey tested my endurance, but it also revealed my resilience and deepened my passion for helping others overcome adversity. In many ways, the challenges I faced became the foundation of the empathy and strength I now bring to my work as a therapist.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At the heart of my work as a therapist is the commitment to creating a safe, compassionate, and culturally responsive space for every client. I believe that trust is the cornerstone of effective therapy-when clients feel seen, understood, and supported, true healing can begin. My passion lies in serving underserved communities and providing care that honors each person’s unique story and cultural background. Drawing from my early experience working with youth in foster care, I developed a deep interest in trauma, grief and loss, depression and anxiety. Over the years, my specialized training and hands-on experience have shaped a therapeutic approach grounded in empathy, authenticity, and empowerment.
Being located in the heart of Montebello has allowed me to continue serving the Latino community that has shaped so much of my professional journey. Providing accessible, bilingual services ensures that individuals and families can receive care in the language and cultural context that feels most authentic to them. It’s a privilege to walk alongside my clients as they find healing , resilience, and hope- and to continue making mental health support more accessible to the community I care so deeply about.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I am deeply passionate about the work I do and the purpose it serves. Every step of my journey has been guided by a commitment to growth-both my own and that of my clients. I find immense fulfillment in witnessing the progress my clients make in therapy, watching as they rediscover their strength, confidence, and sense of self. My ability to genuinely understand others’ perspectives has allowed me to build meaningful, trusting relationships that form the foundation of effective therapy. This dedication to connection and compassion has been instrumental to my success as a therapist, allowing me to create lasting change in the lives of those I serve. For me, this work is more than a profession-it’s a calling rooted in empathy, resilience, and the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to heal and thrive.
